Hi, I am Ron, live in Haarlem the Netherlands, 65 years old, bought a Pannonia de luxe tlt 1957 this year and I am restoring it. Took the engine apart because it made a noise. will replace all the bearings now that it is open.
The crankshaft bearing on the right side was completely worn, that made the noise. The crank has 3 bearings, the left ones are lubricated by the engine oil. The right one not.
I am wondering how that gets lubrication. Only with the oil that is mixed in the gasoline??
No wonder it ran dry and perished. Is it an idea to replace the right one with a closed bearing that is lubricated in the factory of should i just use an open one, just like the one that was in it. And pack it with grease or not??

The right crankshaft bearing and the left inner bearing are lubricated with oil in the fuel mixture.
There is no point in packing grease into these bearings because the fuel will wash it out.
It works, believe me. The right bearing is closed with a seal. There is a Simmerin seal between the left inner bearing and the outer one.
The left outer crankshaft bearing is lubricated with oil from the gearbox.

Another thing is the bearing from the pistonrod.
I cant feel axial play and consider swapping Rod and bearing now that the engine is open. But i cant do that myself. Is it something a bike repair shop can easily do without damaging the crank? Or is it dfficult and/or expensive......any thoughts on that?

For this you need a press. Look for a good locksmith or mechanic in the area. There are refurbished crankshafts for sale on the market, e.g. ebay. You have to send your old one anyway, it will be refurbished for someone else.

If there is no slack there, it's good. There should only be some clearance there. This part is installed with slight resistance.

well now that the engine is open i will consult a repair shop and ask if they can replace the rod and bearing,
spend enough money already and it needs to be good, i will not like to disassemble the engine again if i put in this crank and it doesnt work alright, to be continued next year

If you want to replace the connecting rod, you need to find a shop that has a press for it and will center your crankshaft afterwards.

Is daar een speciale pers voor nodig of is elke hydraulische pers ok? En met centreren bedoel je de krukwangen op precies de oude plaats terug plaatsen?

Any press should be able to handle this. Yes, in centering the crankshaft, that's exactly what I had in mind. Both counterweights must be in the same position relative to each other.

Ik heb een klein fimpje gemaakt van de krukas, maar ik zie dat dat bestand groter dan 4 mb is, kan ik dus helaas niet bijvoegen, is er een oplossing voor??

wilde laten zien dat de speling in de lengte van de drijfstang nagenoeg nihil is, maar dat je de drijstang wel naar links en rechts kunt bewegen. ik vraag omdat ik toch nog twijfel om de kruksas uit elkaar te laten halen en er een nieuw lager in te laten zetten en drijfstang.
wat is wijsheid?? ik denk dat ik t toch maar ga doen......
